India Vs Pakistan 2nd Warm up Match World Cup 2012 Preview:
India vs Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup
2012 warm up match may not be very important given the fact that it is just a
practice match and will not affect the standing of the two South Asian teams in
the tournament, but both teams would go to any extent to win it. The two are
sworn enemies not just off the field, but on cricket pitches too and their
face-off is never without a fair share of controversies.
Given the fact that cricketing ties
between India and Pakistan stand frozen except a few matches here and there,
every match becomes important for both the teams. The tension is not just
within the cricket stadium where match is played, but throughout the
Subcontinent. A win is always given more importance and weigh than a win
against any other nation even against the best team in the world, and a loss is
always brings some punitive measures against the players.
India Vs Pakistan World Cup Warm up Match |
Given the pressure, every player from
both the teams wishes to come up with his best ever performance and at times
the matches are brilliant show of cricketing skills of both the teams.
To be true, there is not much
advertisement campaign at least in India about the T20 World Cup tournament,
but thanks to today’s warm up match, this will compensate for lack of any
advertising. The match will be keenly watches by cricket fans across the two
countries where the biggest cricket following population lives.
Right now Indian team seems to be in
great shape and after its exceptional show against New Zealand and previously
against Sri Lanka on Lankan surface, the team is well prepared to take on its
arch rivals. Pakistani team that failed to do well against Australia in just
concluded series in United Arab Emirates, was able to bag the T20 series
against the Aussies. So for this small version of cricket they too seem fully
prepared.
From Pakistani side Shahid Afridi and
Saeed Ajmal will be keenly watched as the two are the most gifted players of
the Pak team, while from Indian side Virat Kohli and Irfan Pathan will be under
lenses.

"ICC T20 World Cup 2012: Pakistan have
set the momentum, says Dav Whatmore"
Pakistan head
coach Dav
Whatmore has stopped short of making claims that his team can
win World
T20 Trophy but seemed confident that his wards will put their
best foot forward during the three-week tournament in Sri Lanka starting
September 18.
"We have already set a momentum.
I am confident my boys will carry it into the World Cup," he added.
Although Pakistan which recently won
its T20 series against Australia is being seen as a strong contender for the
title, Whatmore insisted anything could happen in the volatile T20 format.
"Other teams have also started to
take this format seriously and have built specialist teams for it," he
told Geo News Channel.
"We did well against Australia
but T20 is a volatile format. One over can change the course of the game. It is
a format where a player or a team has to be at their utmost best and that too
within a short span," Whatmore stated.
The Australian coach also under
pressure to deliver after reports that he too has fallen under the influence of
Hafeez and other senior players and is unable to take independent decisions
said Saeed
Ajmal would play an important role for Pakistan in the World
Cup.
He pointed out that Ajmal was a good
bowler, who could get wicket on each of his ball.
Replying to another question, Whatmore
said that he expected good performance from all players in each match and the
warm-up games against India and England on the 17th and 19th would be very
important for the team.
"Although it is a practice match
against India, but the victory in this match is important," he said.
The national cricket team coach said
that it was not necessary that all the players winning against Australia be
retained, some changes might be made in accordance with the circumstances.
Pakistan has picked a combination of
senior and young players for the tournament which it won in 2009 in England
under Younis Khan's captaincy. It also lost in the final of the inaugural World
T20 in South
Africa in 2007 to arch rivals India.
Experts and analysts believe the
current tournament could be a make or break one for many of the senior players
including Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Nazir and Umar Gul.
"Some of the younger players are
also under pressure to perform in the event notably Umar Akmal whose
inconsistency remains a big problem," a source informed. (PTI)
T20 WC 2012: Pak welcomes warm up
match with India
Colombo, Sept 12 (ANI): Pakistans
cricket team has welcomed their warm up match that would be held with India ahead
of the upcoming Twenty 20 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. The teams captain for
the T20 World Cup Mohammad Hafeez, while addressing mediapersons at a news
conference in Colombo, said that the match would help them perform well under
pressure. Hafeez also added that their scheduled tour of India later this year
is good sign for cricket and it would also go a long way in improving relations
between the two countries. The Pakistani skipper also said that they were
looking forward to performing well in the upcoming tournament.
IRFAN PATHAN LOOKING FORWARD TO
PLAYING PAKISTAN:
Irfan Pathan looking forward to
playing Pakistan in warm-up game – Cricket News Update
Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has
expressed his excitement at the approaching contest between his team and
arch-rivals Pakistan, as both neighbours prepare to face each other during a
widely anticipated warm-up match prior to the ICC World Twenty20 2012 in Sri Lanka this
month, due to played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 17.
Strained diplomatic relations between
the two countries have taken their toll on the sporting ties between India and
Pakistan, who have not played a bilateral series against each other since 2007,
after the terror attacks in Mumbai led to
a complete freeze in relations between the two neighbours.
However, a recent thaw in the deadlock
has led to the announcement of a short bilateral series in India later this
year. Meanwhile, both teams have continued to play each other in international
tournaments – they faced each other in a semi-final during the 2011 ICC World Cup
last year at Mohali, where the Men in Blue emerged triumphant.
India Vs Pakistan t20 World cup 2012 |
Their latest encounter was during the
Asia Cup held in Bangladesh –
while India again won their match against Pakistan, the Men in Green went on to
win the tournament.
With every encounter between the two
sides causing a media frenzy and drawing huge crowds, the potency of an
India-Pakistan clash may be gauged by the excitement being generated for a mere
warm-up match prior to the World T20, with emotions running high on both sides.
“We are going to look forward to win
that game. We are playing Pakistan after a long time,” said left-arm pacer
Pathan, who will be playing his first T20I against the Men in Green since 2007.
“Especially I am playing against them after a long time. Since three years I
have not played against them. Really looking forward to play against Pakistan
and perform well.”
India faced Pakistan for a
tense final during the 2007-2008 edition of the World T20, which they won,
going on to be crowned world champions. However, the two rivals have not come
face to face in the next two editions of the competition – in 2009, and in
2009-2010. In the current tournament, India and
Pakistan have been placed in separate groups, but may have a chance of facing
each other if they make it past the group stage.
'India on look out for ascendance
against Pakistan'
Their tails up after an easy outing
against hosts Sri Lanka, India would like to keep the winning momentum going
when they take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their second warm-up game in Colombo
on Monday ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 beginning on September 18.
The Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led Indian
team would, however, want their batsman to come good against a superior Pakistani
bowling unit to maintain a clean slate ahead of their World Twenty20 opener
against Afghanistan on September 19.
Though, India won comfortably against
the hosts in their opening warm-up game, they certainly need to put up a better
show with the bat against Pakistan, who boast of quality bowlers like Saeed
Ajmal and Umar Gul in their ranks.
Injury to opener Gautam Gambhir, who
hurt his wrist against Sri Lanka, would be a concern for the Indians but
Virender Sehwag along with other top-order batsmen need to redeem themselves
against Pakistan following their dismal show with the bat in the first match.
India, in particular, would like
Sehwag to fire against Pakistan and get some runs under his belt ahead of the
tough battle ahead.
Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has
been a consistent performer, but the young Delhi lad would look to settle down
and get battle ready with a solid knock against Pakistan at the R Premadasa
Stadium.
Yuvraj Singh, who made a comeback to
world cricket after recovering from cancer with a cameo of 34 runs against New
Zealand in the second T20 game in Chennai, also needs to get some more runs
under his belt.
And the match against Pakistan will
provide the gutsy left-hander with an opportunity to prove that he is ready and
looking forward to take on the world with the same zeal as he had left it a
year ago following the critical illness.
While Suresh Raina would also look to
spend some more time on the crease, Dhoni showed why he is still rated as one
of the great finishers of the game against Sri Lanka the other day.
But against Pakistan tomorrow, the
Indian skipper needs to be much more focused both with the bat and with his
leadership skills.
Of late, Rohit Sharma has been erratic
with bat which might prompt Dhoni to give Manoj Tiwary a chance ahead of their
campaign opener.
The Indian bowlers led by Irfan
Pathan, however, looked in good stead in the previous match and they just need
to continue their positive run against Pakistan.
Pathan continued his fine run and
scalped five wickets to guide India to a comfortable 26-run victory over Sri
Lanka in the first practice match yesterday.
The only concern for Dhoni would be
lack of wickets in pace spearhead Zaheer Khan’s kitty.
But comeback man Harbhajan Singh
looked composed against the hosts and bowled a tight line, which definitely is
encouraging for the team.
Pakistan, on the other hand have been
a bit inconsistent in the run-up to the sporting extravaganza. They won two
successive T20 matches against Australia, but their 94-run loss to the
Kangaroos in the final T20 tie showed that their batsmen are vulnerable to
quality bowling.
Pakistan’s batting line-up exhibits
immaturity at this level, but with the likes of Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi and
skipper Mohammed Hafiz in the ranks they really have the necessary fire power
to upset any side.
Young Nasir Jamshed has shown
tremendous promise with the bat and the game against India would certainly test
his temperament.
On the bowling front, Pakistan has a
much settled line-up with off-spinner Saeed Ajmal and speedster Umar Gul
leading their respective departments.
The experience of Razzaq and Afridi
with the ball gives Hafiz plenty of options to dismantle any batting side.
With both the teams having tasted
success at the big stage -- India winning the inaugural World T20 in 2007 and
Pakistan lifting the trophy two years later -- an exciting battle awaits
cricket loving fans of both the countries.
