a number of commercially successful motion pictures during the early 1990s. She
appeared in Hindi films

Bharti played a variety of character types; her film roles along with her

After spending much of her childhood
in Mumbai,
Bharti began a career as an actress in 1990 with the Telugu film Bobbili
Raja. Her early film appearances were minor, but in films like Vishwatma (1992)
where her performance in the song "Saat Samundar Paar" drew attention
to her. By 1992, Bharti had progressed to leading roles in Bollywood films
like Shola Aur Shabnam , a
melodramatic film that dwelt on her undauntedness.
Her dramatic performance in Deewana later that year was hailed by
critics and garnered a Filmfare Award for Best Female
Debut. Bharti has acted in over 14 Hindi films between 1992 and 1993.
Throughout her career, she often played strong female characters and, apart
from mainstream cinema.
Though her career went through certain
periods of decline, she reinvented herself numerous times and was credited for
her ability to sustain her status. The final years of Bharti's life were marked
by personal problems, and a reputation for unreliability and difficulty to work
with. Her career was cut short by her mysterious death on 5 April 1993. The
circumstances of her death, falling from the window ledge of her five-story Versova
apartment have been the subject of conjecture. Bharti's last completed
films were Rang,
co-starring Kamal Sadanah and Shatranj with Jackie
Shroff, both released posthumously.
A film titled Love Behind The
Border, reportedly based on the life of famous actress Divya Bharti who
ruled the roost in the 90s, is being made.
Casting for the protagonist is still being finalised but what is known to us is that Greece actress Tatiana Tsapikidou has been pencilled in to play the role of Divya's costume designer Neeta Lulla. A source said, "During Divya's last moments, her designer, Neeta, and her husband producer Sajid Nadiadwala were a constant by her side. The makers felt that Tatiana is perfect for the role of Neeta. Actor Vije Bhatia will play Sajid. " The source also adds, "The film is not to sensationalise the loss of a good actress, but it is just to pay a tribute to her."
After giving a string of hits like Shola Aur Shabnam (1992), Deewana (1992), Dil Aashna Hai(1992), to name a few, Divya, the spitfire who was often referred to as a young Sridevi fell to her death from her Mumbai apartment on April 5 1993. The cause of her death still remains a mystery.

Controversy – Divya’s Death:-
Her husband
wasn't even present when she fell. Her dress designer, Neeta Lulla, (She
designed clothes for Devdas and Johdaa Akbar) was there with her husband. She
was working with Divya to create new outfits for Divya's upcoming project.
According to Neeta, divya called her on the night of April 5th, coz she was
depressed. When Neeta arrived Divya already had couple of drinks. They were
discussing about her outfits when Divya made another glass of drink and went to
sit on the window ledge. She was leaning backwards and Neeta asked her to come
down. But Divya didn't listen, before they knew it, Divya fell.
The girl
might not have been a great actress - who is? - but she certainly was a
reasonably good actress , and the mystery about her death remains.Divya has not
got that stature for several reasons.First of all , her own family and husband
never bothered to keep her memory alive.Apparently , she was just their meal
ticket.Doing anything in her memory wouldn't mean much to them.

Divya Bharti Dead |
The TV
channels could do something , but here again , commercialism drowns everything
else.Rightly or wrongly , the channels seem to believe that only the new
generation of stars are a draw. The channels have become like films.Few would
now be interested in watching a film with Divya Bharati and not many channels
think that many would wish to see a film-based on the life of the late actress.

Divya Bharti Murder Pictures |
Equally
curious is the silence which enveloped the people close to her when she
died. There were strange about-turns in the statements they gave to the cops ,
and there were several sinister lapses in the investigation and inquiry...
Neeta Lulla stated in her first police statement that when Divya returned home
, she was accompanied by her brother Kunal and father O.P. Bharati.
Perhaps Mr
Bharati saw something and might have blurted it out under the tough police
questioning.Sajid himself was under a cloud. Not only did the newspapers make
much of his underworld connections - a fact he hotly denied - but he too
blundered through his police statement. He had claimed that he was out when
Divya jumped/fell/was flung to death , five floors down.Where had he gone.He
first mentioned the name of Pankaj Kharbanda and later changed his statement
and said that he had gone to meet Kulbhushan Gupta , a producer friend from
whom he had bought the flat he and Divya occupied. That Divya was high on drugs
and alcohol ( rather low since she was described as 'very disturbed' ) was
corroborated by all , but more suspicious was her climbing up the balcony and
standing on the parapet without anyone trying to stop her.
In the
middle of a conversation , Neeta Lulla found that Divya was standing on the
parapet. She hadn't seen her climbing the window and passing through the
clothlines. This seems unbelievable , as usually one would be looking towards
the star present , specially if she is a client and you're talking to her.And
strangely , neither did her husband , Dr Shyam Lulla , who was treating her ,
notice it till she was already standing on the parapet.Everyone tried to give
the impression that Divay was used to standing on the parapet. And yet , the
three persons present at the time of incident claimed to be 'shocked' to see
her standing on the parapet of her 5th floor flat.
