Sunita Williams excited about
watching Olympics from space:-
Ms. Williams, who was into sports during her
days in the Naval Academy, said that she will be excited to watch the London
Olympics from the station and put a much more global perspective on the mega
sporting event beginning July 27.
A sports lover herself, Sunita
Williams is excited about watching the London Olympics from the space and is
looking forward to have some sort of relay race at her current home -- the
International Space Station.
The 46-year-old Indian-origin
astronaut Ms. Williams along with her two colleagues on Sunday took off for her
second space odyssey on a Russian Soyuz rocket, which blasted off successfully
from Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. “I was on the swim team there, I was on the
cross country team, on the bike club, so a lot about sports ..... I went to
jump school and stuff like that, just a lot of good outdoorsy stuff,” Ms.
Williams said in a pre-flight interview to NASA.

She thinks there is a similarity
between the International Space Station’s goal of fostering global cooperation
and the spirit of the Olympics.“Well, of course. It’s, I mean,
the Olympics, what is it, it’s an international competition, to foster
friendship and, and competition across, across the planet, and I think that’s
exactly what the International Space Station is.”
When asked whether they are going
to have any Olympic Games on board, she said, “Well, we probably will. I think,
we’re going to go beyond the, or not cross over country boundaries, though,
because, you know, we are already an international crew, so I think we might do
something Soyuz crew versus Soyuz crew.“I’m looking at some type of
relay maybe or something like that. So I think we’re going to have some
competitions up there. We’ll see what happens,” she said.

Washington, July 15: Indian-American astronaut Sunita
Williams, who holds the record of the longest space flight (195 days) for a
woman, has taken off on her second space odyssey to the International Space
Station.
The Soyuz TMA-05M spacecraft
carrying Williams, 46, Flight Engineers Yuri Malenchenko of Russia and Akihiko
Hoshide of Japan, blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at
8.40 am Sunday (8.10 am India Time), NASA said.
They will dock to the Rassvet
module Tuesday at 12:52 a.m. to join Commander Gennady Padalka and Flight Engineers
Joe Acaba and Sergei Revin at the space station. Williams will take over as
Commander when the old team returns.
Daughter of an Indian American
father from Gujarat and a Slovenian mother, Williams and her colleagues will be
aboard the station during an exceptionally busy period that includes two
spacewalks, the arrival of Japanese, US commercial and Russian resupply
vehicles, and an increasingly faster pace of scientific research, the US space
agency said.
Sunita Williams Explains |
Williams is the second woman of
Indian heritage to have been selected by NASA for a space mission after Kalpana
Chawla and the second astronaut of Slovenian heritage after Ronald M. Sega.
She holds three records for
female space travellers: longest spaceflight (195 days), number of spacewalks
(four), and total time spent on spacewalks (29 hours and 17 minutes) during her
first space journey in 2006.
A 1987 graduate of the US Naval
Academy, Williams served in various roles as a Navy officer before being
selected as an astronaut candidate by NASA in 1998. She received a master's
degree from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1995.

Sunita Williams (Converted to Islam)…What is the Reality:-
Sunita Williams (born September 19, 1965) is
a United States Naval officer and a NASA astronaut. She was assigned to the
International Space Station as a member of Expedition 14 and then joined
Expedition 15. She holds the record of the longest spaceflight (195 days) for female
space travelers. Her father, Dr. Deepak Pandya, is a Hindu and her
mother, Bonnie Pandya, is a Catholic. Williams has an affinity for both faiths
and is known to be a Ganesh devotee.
3
different Claims on Internet:-
Total three different written materials are
floating on Internet… which are as below:
It
has been claimed on various websites, blogs, forums, and in chain e-mails/mass
sms texts, that Sunita Williams had converted from Hinduism to Islam on her
return from the moon.
1st Claim: “Sunita Williams (First Indian woman who went on a space journey few months back) accepted “ISLAM” Masha Allah, bcoz when they were on the moon, they saw towards EARTH, the entire EARTH looked dark, but 2 places on the EARTH GLITERED & looked like SPARKS (Roshni). They were shocked to see that and saw them with the help of telescope and came to know that those two places were “MAKKAH” and “MADINAH” Masha Allah!. Then they decided that after reaching to earth they’ll accept “ISLAM”. So be proud u’r a muslim. Allah Hafiz…!“

2nd
Claim: “Sunita
Williams, the 1st indian lady who went to the moon on 02/07/2007 said that from
the moon, the whole earth looked very black and dark, except the two places
which were bright and shining when she saw through the telescope. These places
were MAKKAH & MADINA (Saudi Arabia). Also, at the moon all the frequencies
failed but still she could listen to the AZAAN..s’allah.”
3rd
Claim: “Encouragin
news for Muslims….Sunita Williams the woman who went in space has converted to
Islam because when they were in space the entire Earth appeared dark but only two
places on Earth appeared like sparks. With telescopic view they identified the
two places as MAKKAH and MADINAH and resolved to accept Islam upon reaching the
Earth. Alhamdulillah the almighty brought them back safely, so subhanallah, be
proud to be a Muslim.”

How it
is Concluded:-
We have learned that Sunita Williams is not
the first woman of Indian ethnicity to fly in space, and that she did not go to
the moon. She also believes Lord Ganesha was looking after her in space, and
even her visit to India upon her return to earth coincided with the Ganesh
celebrations.
After
looking at the facts, we can rightly conclude that their is no evidence
whatsoever to back up the claim that Sunita Williams, or any of the other
unspecified individuals ever agree to convert to Islam upon their return to
earth.
When
setting off toward the International Space Station, Williams had taken with her
a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and a small statue of Lord Ganesha, and following
her return to earth on June 22, 2007, she showed no signs of having converted
to Islam. In fact, she claimed Lord Ganesha was looking after her.
Students wish
Sunita Williams BEST OF LUCK:-
More than 300 children from
Gujarat gathered at Science City on Friday to wish Astronaut Sunita Williams
all the luck for her space expedition, which is set to be launched from
Kazakhstan on June 15. Williams, an astronaut of Gujarati origin, and two
others will leave for International Space Station (ISS) for a six-month
mission.
“A
special outreach programme on ‘ISS and wishing luck to Sunita Williams’ was
organised for students, teachers and general public. About 300 schoolchildren
from different districts of Gujarat participated in the programme,” said Dr
Narottam Sahoo, senior scientist of Gujarat Science City (GSC).
GSC
arranged a special screening of International Space Station on its IMAX 3D
screen for the children. It was once in a lifetime experience for them, a
simulated trip into space. The 47-minute ‘exploration’ took visitors 354 km
above sea-level to visit the ISS, where Williams will spend six months for
scientific exploration.
The
programme included interactive sessions with eminent scientists of space
applications centre of ISRO. They explained about the mission of Expedition 32,
hands-on demonstration on HAM Radio for inspiring young students to call ISS.
