James Holmes 24 year old is now in police custody:-

         The US Police on Friday identified the gunman who opened fire at a Denver-area theatre during a midnight premiere of the latest Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises”, killing 12 people and injuring at least 50 others.

The suspect was taken into custody and identified by federal law enforcement officials as James Holmes.

A news agency reports that Holmes is a 24-year-old white American male.

He was wearing a bullet-proof vest and a riot-type mask when he opened the fire at a theatre in Aurora, Colorado.

Reports said that the gunman in a gas mask barged into the theatre, hurled a gas canister and then opened fire.

According to NBC, Holmes’ name was not on any watch list and he has no military history.

Also, Aurora police spokesman Frank Fania said that Holmes had not any previous run-ins with the law, other than a "minor" traffic ticket last year.

ABC News reports that Holmes had moved to Colorado from San Diego, California to pursue a PhD at the University of Colorado Denver Medical Campus. He withdrew as a student in June.

Holmes was apprehended by police in the movie theatre parking lot without any resistance from his side.

Sources say Holmes is a former University of Colorado School of Medicine student who dropped out last month. He does not have a criminal record, nor does he appear to possess ties to any terrorist organization.

Authorities raided Holmes' Denver-area apartment today and reportedly found what appeared to be "buckets of extra ammunition" and some kind of chemical inside his home.

Eerily enough, a woman from California called in to ABC News a short while ago and confirmed that Holmes, her son, is almost definitely the culprit.

"You have the right person," the San Diego resident said, adding that she would be calling the police and flying to Colorado.

In the wake of this tragedy, Warner Bros. has canceled the Paris red carpet premiere of The Dark Knight Rises tonight and sent out its thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims.
