Ultimate showroom: The two buildings
at the Volkswagen theme park, the Autostadt, are 200ft tall

The Autostadt is a
visitor attraction adjacent to the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany,
with a prime focus on automobiles. It features a museum, feature pavilions for
the principal automobile brands in the Volkswagen Group, a customer center
where German customers can pick up new cars, and take a tour through the
enormous factory, a guide to the evolution of roads, and cinema in a large
sphere. It is also home to the largest glass doors in the world and the longest
printed line. The line starts from outside Wolfsburg and travels through
Autostadt to a point on a farm. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) long.
Biggest attraction,
of course, are the towers. There are two 60 meter/200 ft tall glass silos used
as storage for new Volkswagens. The two towers are connected to the Volkswagen
factory by a 700 metre underground tunnel. When cars arrive at the towers they are
carried up at a speed of 1.5 metres per second. The render for the Autostadt
shows 6 towers. When purchasing a car from Volkswagen (the main brand only, not
the sub-brands) in select European countries, it is optional if the customer
wants it delivered to the dealership where it was bought or if the customer
wants to travel to Autostadt to pick it up. If the latter is chosen, the
Autostadt supplies the customer with free entrance, meal tickets and a variety
of events building up to the point where the customer can follow on screen as
the automatic elevator picks up the selected car in one of the silos. The car
is then transported out to the customer without having driven a single meter,
and the odometer is thus on.

Wolfsburg and its Crest – A
short brief lesson!
The city of Wolfsburg is world famous
as the main headquarters of the Volkswagen AG and was one of the few German
cities built during the first half of the 20th century. In 1972 the population
first exceeded the mark of 100,000 which made Wolfsburg a major city. From its
foundation on 1 July 1938 until 25 May 1945 the city was called "Stadt des
KdF-Wagens near Fallersleben". It was meant to be the domicile for the
workers of the Volkswagen factory which should produce the "KdF-Wagen"
(VW Beetle).
The emblem of Wolfsburg shows a silver
two-tower castle with a closed gate on red ground over a green base with silver
waved timbers. Over the battlement of the castle paces a golden wolf with a
blue tongue.
On the left you can see the Volkswagen
Wolfsburg factory, as well as the Autostadt's two massive 22-storied car silos,
each with a capacity to hold 400 cars ready for delivery. Cars to the towers
come directly from the factory through an underground, computer controlled, conveyer
tunnel.
Can you imagine having your car
delivered in one of these!?
The world’s most amazing car showroom:
600 Volkswagens stacked into 200ft tall silos ready for delivery
These futuristic garages are the
ultimate car showroom – with millions of pounds worth of new vehicles sitting
in the stunning glass towers.
Each day about 600 cars are picked up
from the two 200ft tall silos by their new owners – making it the world’s
largest vehicle delivery centre.
Incredibly, the cars are built at the
manufacturer’s main plant, in Wolfsburg, Germany, and transported by conveyor
belt to the adjacent towers’ basement.

From there they are lifted into
position at a speed of two metres a second via a robotic arm that rotates and
run along a central beam.
Each tower contains 400 brand new
Volkswagens.

An underground tunnel connects the two
buildings, and the cars roll along an internal track to arrive to be fitted
with license plates.
New owners can watch as their car is
picked up from a bay and delivered to them at the Autostadt CustomerCenter,
with the speedometer at zero.
Scenes from the latest Mission
Impossible film – starring Tom Cruise – were inspired by the Autostadt
The 20 storey buildings, which were
the inspiration for a huge garage in the latest Mission Impossible film – Ghost
Protocol – are housed at the Volkswagen theme park, the Autostadt, which
translates as ‘car city.’
Good article, but obvious clickbait, it is nowhere near the largest of anything car-related.
